Uncomplicated SAM Management Refresher Training for HEWs and HWs

The war crisis in Tigray has resulted in multidirectional consequences in the community of the region. According to Bureau of Labor and Social Affairs of Tigray region, due to the consequences of wars, millions of people are displaced and faced food security problems. As a result, huge number of mothers and children are exposed for nutrition problems. But this crisis resulted prevalence of acute malnutrition cannot be handled with limited capacity and effort of the community and local government. So, it needs collaboration of humanitarian, INGOs, NNGOs and CSOs in responding to the crisis.
Accordingly, Tigray Youth Empowerment Solutions (TYES) in collaboration with and Tigray regional health bureau and UNICEF conducted Uncomplicated SAM Management Refresher Training for health workers (HWs) and health extension workers (HEWs) from Raya-Azebo, Mehoni town, Raya-Chercher, Ofla and Korem woredas. Hence the refresher training was given from Sep.15-16 /2023 in Mehoni town.

- Strengthening knowledge and skill of and Health Extension Workers (HEWs) Health Workers (HWs) on Uncomplicated SAM Management in Raya-Azebo, Mehoni town, Raya-Chercher, Ofla and Korem

- Introduction about nutrition
- Principle of care (how to assess acute malnutrition)
- Demonstrated how to measure weight for Height (Z-Score), and MUAC with their interpretations and MUAC cut-off points
- Edema assessment and grading
- Recommended criteria to diagnose SAM and admission to TFP
