Supporting IDPs in Tigray
TYES is one of the first local organizations which are responding to the emergency need of the internally displaced people (IDPs) in Tigray region. It has mobilized provision of food aid, clothes, finance, and kitchen materials through its volunteers. TYES volunteers mobilized food and nonfood items from residents of Mekelle city, diaspora and other city and distributed to the IDPs these include clothes, kitchen equipment. Moreover, orphan and vulnerable children have been supported by TYES volunteers.
In general, TYES has been supporting 14 IDPs in Mekelle and 3 IDPs in Shire by providing 516 canes of 900 gm milk for 222 displaced lactating and pregnant mothers, 2796 pcs (200 gm/pc) of energy food for 699 displaced children, 216 pants for displaced women and girls, 195 soaps, 47 200 gm powder soap (omo), 630 modes for women and girls, 94 exercise books for 54 orphan IPDs, 47 pens for 54 orphan IDPs, 95 sacks of clothe for all range of age distributed and 25 kg of rice per household for 186 IDPs in 3 IDP sites of Shire. Moreover, TYES has made ready one tractor and has been providing ploughing services for farmers in selected woredas of Tigray where it is possible to make use of tractor.
However, due to the pervasive war effect addressing more IDPs, rape victim women and girls, and children (OVC) through local resource mobilization is impossible. Cognizant to this problem, TYES has developed project proposals focused on addressing the problem of war victim women and OVCs and submitted to international donors.
